The Legend-News
Warning
I'm coming off a mild case of influenza, and I'm still sneezing and coughing way too much. I'm grumpy, grouchy, and generally peeved. You have been warned.
You Wouldn't Know A Good Song If It Bit You On The (fill in blank)
If you're reading this page, you're probably a fan of C.W. McCall or you at least have an interest in learning about him. If you don't meet one of those criteria, why are you wasting your time here?
Curiously, some people take delight in listing the alledged 'Worst Songs of the 1970s'. And usually, 'Convoy' is on their list. For example,
- The Jukebox From Hell. "Bob Seger meets Weird Al and Pat Boone". Now what if he heard Weird Al's "Truck Drivin' Song"?
- The 101 Worst Songs Ever Recorded. Number 58.
- Bad Songs... They Say So Much. The Worst Musical Refuse Of The '70s. "Good for a laugh but not for repeated listens: 'Eleven long-haired friends of Jesus in a chartreuse micro-bus'". And, then continue on to 'Bad Songs' Responses. "Our precious archive of Not so professional, constructive criticism (all the authors' typos left intact)". There's a 'Convoy' comment by Mark Rice, near the bottom of the page.
- The Hall of Heaves: The 1285 Cheesiest Songs of the Rock Era. Now here's someone who had way too much time on his hands. His assessment of 'Convoy': "Truckstop Tango". And for Bachman Turner Overdrive's "Roll On Down The Highway"? "We got us a convoy!!!"
- Re: All-Time Worst Songs. One man's opinion.
- Sucking My Will To Live: The 250 Worst Songs of All Time (in no particular order). But 'Convoy' isn't really bad enough to make his list! "I should also note that novelty songs have been left off this list because they were obviously written to be disposable. Hence the omission of songs like Convoy by C.W. McCall, Don't Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFerrin and Ghostbusters by Ray Parker, Jr. Sure, they're bloody annoying, but their sheer flippance takes them out of the make-your-ears-bleed category." Dispose this, dude!
I'm considering a new page myself: 'The Worst "Worst Songs of the 1970s" Lists List'.
But They Taught Me So Much
On an almost C.W. McCall-related note, here's an entry from
