Phillips 66 Transitions Into The 21st Century

Multinational energy corporation Conoco/Phillips announced today that it is bringing its Phillips 66 fuel stations into the 21st Century by renaming them to reflect the current state of the United States highway system.

Phillips 66 was the name given to a gasoline formulation created by the Phillips Petroleum Company in 1927. It was named after United States Highway 66, on which the gasoline was tested. Phillips merged with Conoco Incorporated in 2002.

However, US Highway 66 was decomissioned in 1985; although much of the original road still exists, often marked as a 'historic route', the highway number itself is no longer in use.

As Route 66 was replaced by mostly Interstate Highways, the company's new name will be Phillips 55-44-40-15-210.
