The San Juan Odyssey Returns!

I’ve mentioned a multimedia show that Bill Fries presented at Wright’s Opera House in Ouray, “San Juan Odyssey”. That show, presented by Bill and his family, ran for 19 years between 1977 and 1996; but since then, it’s been in storage and hasn’t been seen by man nor Critter, except for some plastic-wrapped equipment in Bill’s garage.

Well, I had just returned this Friday afternoon from Crystal Lake, Illinois, where I had seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (more about that later) and upon checking my mail found a press release from the Main Street Restaurant and Theatre in Ouray, Colorado: “C.W. McCall brings the San Juan Odyssey to Main Street Restaurant and Theatre in Ouray”.

Yes, Bill’s show is back this summer, and in a format that’s slightly different from the original presentation: instead of a five-screen slideshow, San Juan Odyssey will be shown in a large-screen digital video format. The show will open this Saturday night, and Bill will be there.

The Main Street Restaurant and Theatre is located at 630 Main Street in Ouray. San Juan Odyssey will be presented each night at 7:30 PM. Admission is $8.00 per person, or $5.00 for persons aged 5 through 12; under 5 years are admitted for free.

It’s the Truth!

I was planning to send out the next edition of The Legend-News on June 1st, having accumulated enough fodder content for another issue, but I figured that the SJO announcement warranted a special edition. Expect more stuff in your inbox, next week. (Yes, it really has been five months since the last issue.)

And, to answer a question that many of you have asked: no, I don’t know if or when SJO will be available on DVD. Bill discontinued the VHS tape version long ago; when I last spoke with him he said that he was considering a DVD version, but that he did not know when that release would come.

If a new version of San Juan Odyssey is for sale, I’ll be certain to tell you.
